Vodacom has successful deployment of a world 1st triple-band mobile radio unit in Egypt a major milestone for the company. <\/p>\n
The telco said the world 1st triple-band mobile radio unit that combines the 1800MHz, 2100 FDD and 2600 TDD frequency bands into one single radio unit will reduce the cost of Vodacom\u2019s 4G\/5G network rollout in the country, the implementation time, energy consumption and tower load. <\/p>\n
The mobile network giant, which acquired a 55% stake in Vodafone Egypt in 2022, invested R4.6 billion in its last financial year in growing and strengthening that country\u2019s network to support increased demand. <\/p>\n
With a market share of 43% and customer base of 40%, Vodafone is the largest mobile network operator in Egypt in terms of revenue. The fintech and digital company provides a range of integrated telecommunication services, including mobile and fixed voice, SMS, data and mobile money. <\/p>\n
It services 48.3 million customers and contributes one-quarter of the company’s revenue. <\/p>\n
As of January 2024, Egypt’s internet penetration rate was 72.2%, with 75.66 million internet users in January 2022. <\/p>\n
Commenting on the development, Dejan Kastelic, Group Technology Officer for Vodacom Group said: “Vodacom is committed to providing solutions that contribute towards Egypt’s priority national development ambitions, including the Digital Egypt strategy, which comprises numerous national projects to achieve digital transformation and upgrade digital infrastructure.” <\/p>\n
