That arrangement ended this week. Hassabis is stepping back from running Google DeepMind to become its chair and Alphabet&#8217;s chief scientist, and day-to-day control of the lab passes to Koray Kavukcuoglu, the former DeepMind CTO now promoted to senior vice-president reporting directly to Sundar Pichai.The seating chart says more than the press release does.
