In a move that will directly benefit premium smartphone manufacturers, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has introduced a \u2018nil\u2019 basic customs duty on key components required to manufacture inductor coil modules used for wireless charging in cellular mobile phones, covering nano-crystalline (NC) assemblies, e-shields, PET liners, PC shims (with Z-liner), main stranded coils, NFC coils, and Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) Magnets. <\/p>\n
Simultaneously, CBIC has exempted customs duty on inputs like cells, flexible printed circuit assemblies (FPCA), backlight units, frames, and anisotropic conductive films (ACF) used in manufacturing display assemblies. However, it targets automotive, medical, and industrial applications, explicitly excluding consumer electronics like mobile phones, smartwatches, and televisions. <\/p>\n
The customs duty relief will remain in effect till March 31, 2029. <\/p>\n
Furthermore, CBIC has extensively overhauled the list of capital goods eligible for concessional customs duty for manufacturing Lithium-Ion cells. A comprehensive 85-item roster of specialised machinery, ranging from powder dryers and cathode\/anode extrusion coating machines to advanced Helium testing and laser pin welding equipment, has been streamlined to catalyse large-scale battery gigafactories across the nation. <\/p>\n
