{"id":1012572,"date":"2026-06-05T17:29:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/telecomlive.in\/web\/?p=1012572"},"modified":"2026-06-06T06:45:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T01:15:06","slug":"data-centre-operator-airtrunk-to-invest-30-bn-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/telecomlive.in\/web\/2026\/06\/05\/data-centre-operator-airtrunk-to-invest-30-bn-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Data centre operator AirTrunk to invest $30 bn in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australian data centre operator AirTrunk will invest around US$30 billion in India by 2030, the company said on Friday, the latest promised major tech investment into the country.<\/p>\n<p>Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the company planned to develop five gigawatts of data centre capacity and will &#8220;strengthen India&#8217;s position as a global hub for cloud computing and AI, while generating employment opportunities&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>AirTrunk said its investment will &#8220;support digital infrastructure capacity&#8221; in &#8220;multiple&#8221; sites countrywide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;India&#8217;s digital infrastructure journey is gathering remarkable momentum,&#8221; Modi said in a statement on social media. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is among the largest proposed investments in the country&#8217;s digital infrastructure ecosystem.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>With more than a billion internet users, India has seen a surge of investment as generative AI players seek inroads to the world&#8217;s most populous country.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a flurry of billion-dollar data centre announcements from tech giants like Google, as well as domestic firms such as Reliance Industries.<\/p>\n<p>AirTrunk chief executive Robin Khuda, who met Modi this week, said the company was looking to &#8220;double down&#8221; on its existing commitments to India.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;India is taking a top-down approach to AI with clear government-led initiatives, a world-class talent pool and massive availability of renewable energy,&#8221; he said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>Further details of AirTrunk&#8217;s investment were not announced on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Digital infrastructure is becoming as important to economic growth as roads, ports and power networks were in previous generations,&#8221; the company said. <\/p>\n<p>But Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of India&#8217;s richest state Maharashtra, gave details of proposed plans for a 3GW data centre at Raigad Pen Growth Centre, near financial capital Mumbai.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian data centre operator AirTrunk will invest around US$30 billion in India by 2030, the company said on Friday, the latest promised major tech investment into the country.
