Cyber command cracks down on mule accounts, 13 arrested
Bengaluru: The Cyber Command Centre launched a major crackdown on cyber fraud networks across the state, arresting 13 people whose bank accounts were used as mule accounts to siphon off money.
According to director general of police, cyber command, Ponab Mohanty, the operation uncovered a network of “mule herders” suspected of aggregating over 42,000 bank accounts and led to the arrest of 13 key masterminds who procured mule accounts. Mohanty said the raids were carried out as part of intensified efforts to tackle rising cyber fraud and as a follow-up to digital arrest cases. More than 40,000 mule bank accounts used for online scams have been uncovered so far.
