WhatsApp to roll out local billing for business users later this year
Mumbai: WhatsApp is set to launch local billing for business users in India and Brazil by the second half of 2026, a move aimed at reducing foreign exchange costs, eliminating cross-border transaction issues and enabling faster settlements in two of its largest markets.
Currently, the Meta-owned platform’s business messaging services are billed largely in US dollars, forcing Indian startups and enterprises to deal with forex mark-ups, currency volatility and compliance challenges. With local billing, eligible Indian customers will be billed in rupees, allowing payments through domestic channels and improving predictability of costs.
