Make in India electronics: Cos create 1.33 million jobs as PLI scheme boosts smartphone sector
New Delhi: The electronics industry, considered the biggest Make-in-India success story, created more than 1.33 million jobs over the past five years as the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme revolutionised smartphone manufacturing and boosted exports nearly tenfold over this period.
The industry, which includes Apple and its local manufacturing ecosystem, recently told the Centre that nearly 70% of the job additions involved women and first-timers.
Furthermore, in FY25 alone, the mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem paid an estimated Rs 25,000 crore as wages to the blue-collar staff, with an average salary of Rs 18,000 per month for direct employees and Rs 14,000 for indirect staff, making the industry a significant contributor to job creation and economic growth.
