Digital ID on iPhones and Android phones: Everything you need to know about carrying your passport and other IDs on your phone

Apple has launched Digital ID, allowing iPhone and Apple Watch users to store their US passport information in Apple Wallet and use it at TSA checkpoints across more than 250 airports nationwide for domestic travel. The announcement marks a significant expansion in digital identification, joining Google’s similar feature introduced last year for Android devices.

Digital ID provides users a way to create and present identification in Apple Wallet even without a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID. However, it’s crucial to understand that this digital version doesn’t replace your physical passport and cannot be used for international travel or border crossings.
