India notifies its first data protection law to strengthen privacy, security

India, on Friday, officially notified the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, signalling a significant step forward in regulating the processing, protection, and governance of personal data in the country.

These rules pave the way for the enforcement of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, aiming to establish clear guidelines for data fiduciaries, consent managers, and mechanisms to safeguard individual privacy rights.
