After fighting in court for 5 years, Fortnite-maker Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says: Google has made an awesome proposal
Fortnite-maker Epic Games and Google may soon reach a settlement in their bitter, five-year antitrust dispute, announcing a proposed deal that will reshape the Android app ecosystem globally. The agreement promises to expand developer choice, significantly lower fees, and streamline access for rival app stores on Android’s Play Store. The proposed settlement, which is subject to final court approval, is hailed by Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney as “awesome.”
The proposed resolution follows a high-stakes courtroom confrontation that saw Epic win a jury verdict against Google in 2023, where a jury accused Google of illegally monopolising app distribution on Android devices. The news was jointly announced by both companies.
