AI models struggle with complex scientific reasoning tasks
New Delhi: A new study by researchers from IIT Delhi and an international university found that today’s leading AI models perform well on simple tasks but struggle with the complex reasoning needed for autonomous scientific research.
The study, titled “Probing the Limitations of Multimodal Language Models for Chemistry and Materials Research,” reveals that while vision-language models can handle basic analyses, they often fail when deeper scientific understanding or multi-step reasoning is required.
