Road safety: Tech majors seek delicensing of 30MHz in 5.9GHz band for 5G-led V2V deployments
NEW DELHI: Multinational technology companies and chipset vendors have sought the Centre’s urgent intervention to delicense 30MHz in the 5.9GHz band, which will pave the way for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, and help reduce road fatalities.
This will be achieved by, say, a Toyota car’s onboard unit (OBU) communicating with a Maruti Suzuki car’s OBU, via fifth-generation (or 5G) network to transmit data such as speed, direction, braking status, and position, in real-time, enabling drivers and vehicles to “see” dangers and obstacles in real-time, well before they come into direct line of sight.
