DoT mulling new norms: For satcom companies, sky may have a subscriber limit

New Delhi: The Centre may limit the number of subscribers being served by a particular satellite system — Starlink, Amazon Kuiper, Eutelsat OneWeb, or Jio-SES — officials familiar with the matter told ET.

The proposed curbs are aimed at addressing the concerns of incumbent telcos that believe satcom companies could enter the retail mobile broadband space through the ‘back door’ by using satcom permits to grab a large user base, thus cannibalizing their main revenue stream, experts said.
