PayPal users reported issues with the money transfer service on Friday morning. Tracking site DownDetector reported a spike of more than 700 outages from about 9 am ET. Due to the outage, many users were scrambling to make payments or access their accounts on the popular money transfer apps in the US.
PayPal is one of the most widely used financial apps in the US, logging over 400 million active users last year. On the other hand, Venmo has nearly 90 million users in the US.
