TCS Layoffs: IT Ministry Monitoring Situation Closely Amid Job Cuts
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is closely tracking Tata Consultancy Services’ decision to lay off over 12,000 employees globally, mainly from mid- and senior-level roles. The ministry is in contact with TCS and aims to understand the causes behind the move, given that employment growth remains a national priority.
TCS, which had a total workforce of over 6.13 lakh as of June 30, 2025, announced the layoffs as part of its strategy to become a “future-ready organisation.” The company cited focus areas including AI deployment, reskilling, and workforce realignment. While 5,000 employees were added in Q1, around 2% of the global workforce will be let go over the course of the year.
