Vi Warns Govt, Wants Waivers

On April 17, Vodafone Idea wrote a letter to telecom secretary urging the government for waiver of AGR dues so that it remains afloat. It warned the government that if this is not done, entire public shareholding of 74 per cent, which includes 49 per cent of the government, will get wiped out.

However, instead of rejecting such recurring demands out-rightly, the DoT, seemingly to be in accommodative mood, expressed its helplessness in view of the Supreme Court’s judgment. In its response dated 29.04.2025 to Vi, the DoT said, “In view of the Hon’ble Supreme Court judgement dated 01.09.2020 in the AGR matter, the request cannot be considered.”
