‘American jobs come first’: Trump throws cold water over Apple’s Make in India plans

President Donald Trump has warned that Apple will face a 25% tariff on iPhones manufactured overseas and sold in the US, signalling that the company’s move to expand production in India may backfire. “I had an understanding with Tim that he wouldn’t be doing this. He said he’s going to India to build plants. I said, ‘That’s okay, but you’re not going to sell into here without tariffs,’” Trump said in the Oval Office on Friday, referencing a conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook.
