AI Director also affected in Microsoft’s recent layoffs impacting 6,000 employees globally

In its recent layoff, Microsoft has let go of about 6,000 employees or 3% of its total employees across all levels and geographies and many employees were asked to leave immediately.

“We were asked to stop work immediately and set an out-of-office (notification). But I chose to stay a little longer-showing up for meetings, saying goodbye, wrapping up what I could. That felt right to me,” said Gabriela de Queiroz, Director of AI at Microsoft, who is one among the 6,000 employees. Earlier in 2023, the company fired 10,000 or about 5% of its total employee base globally.
