Qualcomm wins its legal battle against Arm, but why the problems may not be all over for it
Qualcomm secured a win in its licensing dispute with Arm, but the legal battle may be far from over after a federal jury in Delaware delivered a mixed verdict on last week that resulted in a partial mistrial.
The jury sided with Qualcomm on two crucial points, finding that the chipmaker didn’t violate Arm’s licensing agreement when it acquired chip design startup Nuvia for $1.4 billion in 2021. The verdict also confirmed that Qualcomm’s existing architecture license with Arm covered the continued development of custom CPU cores obtained through the Nuvia acquisition.
