After Intel, another chipmaker is getting over $6 billion government funding for manufacturing plants in US
The US Commerce Department has announced a major investment in domestic semiconductor manufacturing. The department has awarded Micron Technology up to $6.165 billion in funding from the CHIPS Act.
This substantial investment – comparable to CHIPS Act subsidies previously granted to Intel as well as TSMC and Samsung – marks the US government’s commitment to boosting domestic semiconductor production and reducing reliance on foreign manufacturers.
“With this investment in Micron, we are delivering on one of the core objectives of the CHIPS program – onshoring the development and production of the most advanced memory semiconductor technology, which is crucial for safeguarding our leadership on artificial intelligence and protecting our economic and national security,” said US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
