Google’s Android 16 might come with this two-year old iPhone feature
Google is developing a new status bar notification system that seems to be inspired of Apple’s Dynamic Island feature, Android Authority reports. The feature, dubbed “Rich Ongoing Notifications,” was discovered in a recent Android beta release and would allow apps to display live information in a compact format at the top of the screen.
According to findings by Android Authority in the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3, the new API would enable apps to create customised notification “chips” with configurable text and background colours in the status bar. While the feature appears in the current beta, sources indicate it’s more likely to launch with Android 16 next year.
