Google’s this $2 billion deal is under scanner
Google’s partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic is facing a potential hurdle in the UK. The country’s competition watchdog has reportedly raised concerns and called for a deeper investigation into the deal. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is scrutinising the deal’s potential impact on the AI market and innovation. This investigation could delay or even derail the partnership, which involves Google investing in Anthropic and gaining a stake in the company. The Alphabet-owned tech giant has pledged to invest $2 billion into the AI startup last year. Before the investment, Google also signed a major cloud agreement with Anthropic.
