Mother sues Character.AI, blames the company’s chatbot for causing son’s suicide by “misrepresenting itself” as adult lover; adds Google in lawsuit

Megan Garcia, mother of 14-year old deceased Sewell Setzer, has filed a lawsuit against artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot startup Character.AI. The lawsuit accuses Character.AI of causing her son’s suicide in February this year. In the lawsuit, she claims that her son became addicted to the company’s service and got deeply attached to a chatbot it created.
