ET Graphics: Data usage in tier 2 cities & towns more than metro cities

India’s mobile data consumption volumes are being steered from the countryside, a new study by Bernstein has found. Per capita data use from tier 2 cities and towns has grown to 35-40 GB per month, 30% higher than metro cities, making Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel the 6th and 7th most valued telecom companies in the world. At 4.8 hours per day, India came sixth in the world, for the most amount of time spent on phone apps in 2023. Here’s a snapshot on how Indians consume data:
