Smartphone sales in India hit $10-billion mark

NEW DELHI: The Indian smartphone market achieved its highest ever revenues for a typical second quarter, driven by the premiumisation trend, with Vivo eking out Apple to become the second largest smartphone brand in value terms in the June quarter, market trackers said.

Counterpoint Research said the Indian smartphone market clocked around $10 billion in revenues in Q2 2024, while a slower second quarter typically sees around $8-9 billion in revenues. This, even as quarterly shipments for Q2 declined by 2% year-on-year, influenced by a heatwave, a seasonal slump, and slower demand from Q1 2024.
