Oman’s telecom giant Omantel taps Kerala-based AI startup to drive digital transformation
Kerala-based innovative technology solutions provider MERP Systems signed an agreement with Muscat-headquartered integrated telecommunication services leader Omantel to drive digital transformation initiatives across its various departments and subsidiaries.
The startup said it will leverage AI tools from Microsoft to drive the digital transformation of the Oman telecom major.
The strategic framework agreement is aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies, improving customer service and developing new digital products in tune with the evolving needs of consumers and businesses in Oman.
The partnership will focus on digital innovation, using AI to improve data analysis, cloud computing and customer service, MERP said in a media release.
It will turn paper documents and digitised documents into searchable, organised data sets improving information reporting to enhance operational efficiency of the organisation.
Omantel CEO, Shaikh Talal al Maamari said his company is dedicated to transforming the Sultanate of Oman into a digitally connected economy.
“Collaborating with MERP Systems and utilising Microsoft’s AI technology will accelerate our journey towards digital excellence,” he said.
MERP Systems CEO Prem Nair said the collaboration with Omantel aligns with his company’s vision to lead through innovation.

Microsoft Country Head Shaikh Saif Al Hosni termed the agreement as ‘an incredibly important milestone’ for his company to help transform business and application systems transformation at Omantel using our AI technology stack.

Omantel’s digital advancement
The agreement will also enhance and modernise the human resource management system with AI, including an AI Avatar tool that interviews and ranks job candidates quickly, thus making employee on-boarding faster.
The focus will also be on developing an AI-enhanced digital store that recommends products tailored to customer preferences.
This leading-edge future store will feature dynamic avatars that let customers virtually try on and feel the apparel.
Further, the partnership will boost internet connectivity by improving Omantel’s digital network, which will provide faster and more advanced services to businesses and customers.
Additionally, it includes programmes to train local Omani professionals in advanced AI technology skills.
