Ooredoo, Zain launch regional tower platform

Ooredoo and Mobile Telecommunications Company KSPC (Zain Group) on Thursday said they have concluded their first regional tower transaction. They have established a regional tower platform, jointly owned with each holding a 50 per cent stake.

This initial closing integrates tower assets from Ooredoo Qatar (Al Abraj) and Zain Kuwait (ITK). These portfolios collectively comprise approximately 4,000 towers.

The transaction is expected to generate significant value through increased scale and capital efficiencies. It will also support a dedicated operating model focused on passive infrastructure.

As the platform expands, it will facilitate infrastructure-as-a-service, allowing operators to access infrastructure more efficiently. This initiative aims to support the continued development of the region’s digital infrastructure.

Additional tower portfolios are anticipated to be progressively incorporated into the platform. This integration is contingent on applicable closing conditions and necessary regulatory and other approvals.

Ooredoo and Zain will maintain their respective active telecom infrastructure. This includes the technology, software, and intellectual property required to operate their networks.
