Bharti Airtel’s prepaid readjustment leads to no major churn of semi-urban, rural users: IIFL

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel has not seen significant churn among rural and semi-urban subscribers after discontinuing certain prepaid plans, according to a channel analysis by IIFL Capital.

In August, Airtel shelved its ₹299 plan with a 28-day validity and 1.5GB per day data; ₹579 and ₹649 plans with 56-day validity, offering 1.5GB per day and 2GB per day, respectively; and the ₹619 plan with 60-day validity with 1.5GB per day data.

Analysts have earlier said the move is expected to drive upgradation of the telco’s subscribers to costlier plans, which offer higher validity and more data quota, adding that the move is expected to deliver a modest ₹4-6 average revenue per user (ARPU) uptick in FY27 for the Sunil Mittal-led telco.
