Google-parent Alphabet to send in-house AI chips into Orbit on SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket

Google-parent company Alphabet is preparing to send its proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, marking an initial operational step toward evaluating whether supercomputing facilities can operate in space. The uncrewed launch is slated for 11:15 am PT Thursday, October 1 (12:45 am IST, October 2) from California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County.The mission, flying under SpaceX’s Transporter-18 rideshare program, carries satellites from Planet Labs, including a solar-powered prototype system fitted with Google’s custom-built Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).
