BSNL to launch free insurance for mobile subscribers, cover cybercrime losses

NEW DELHI: In an industry-first move, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) plans to launch an insurance plan for its users, which includes coverage for cybercrimes. The state-owned telco has partnered with Oriental Insurance Company (OICL).

“BSNL is the first operator to take insurance to the people who haven’t even heard about it, which will include losses from cybercrimes,” BSNL Chairman A Robert J Ravi told ET.

The insurance will offer accidental death cover of ₹1 lakh and cyber-fraud cover of ₹10,000 with select BSNL prepaid plans, including the STV 202 and STV 2449 packs.
