China’s Alibaba launches international data centre push

Chinese tech giant Alibaba unveiled plans on Wednesday to expand its overseas data centres, targeting markets across Europe and the Middle East.

Hangzhou-based Alibaba is one of the frontrunners in China’s artificial intelligence industry, with its Qwen model among the world’s most downloaded AI models.

The company said it would “establish its first cloud regions” in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands, while “expanding its data centre footprint in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France and Hong Kong” over the next 12 months.
