Tata Trusts assert right in casting vote tussle, challenge Chandrasekaran’s reappointment

The shareholder rights of Tata Trusts, used in 2016 to oust Cyrus Mistry as Tata Sons chairman and upheld by the Supreme Court in 2021, cannot be nullified through a casting vote, the Noel Tata camp said on Sunday.

It was through his casting vote that Tata Sons director Harish Manwani had at Thursday’s board meeting handed another five-year term to company executive chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, after Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata voted against it.
