‘UPI could have stayed free’: Ashneer Grover, Opposition slam 0.4% merchant payment charge

The Modi government’s decision to impose a 0.4 per cent charge on UPI payments above Rs 2,000 to merchants has sparked a massive backlash among the Opposition and a section of fin-tech experts.

The government has capped the fee at Rs 300 for payments of Rs 75,000 and above as it rolled out a framework for large digital merchant payments.
