Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman has issued a warning about how advanced AI systems could behave, pointing to the reported Hugging Face incident involving OpenAI’s AI models. His comments come as Nvidia prepares to spend $12.93 billion to acquire Hugging Face, the platform where millions of developers build, share and download AI models. “The risk isn’t that machines wake up. It’s that they act like they have,” Suleyman wrote on X. He then asked people to imagine the “Hugging Face incident with AIs that believe they’re conscious or are entitled ‘model welfare’,” adding to the debate over AI safety and the behaviour of increasingly capable models.
