The ‘addiction blame’ on Facebook and Instagram that may cost Meta $1.4 trillion

A courtroom in Oakland is about to become the latest battleground over how Facebook and Instagram treat their youngest users — and Meta says the price of losing could run to $1.4 trillion. The trial opens Tuesday, August 18, in the federal court, where a coalition of 29 US states will argue that Meta built its platforms to hook young people, not just entertain them. Over the next five to six weeks, jurors will hear from some of Meta’s most recognisable names — CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri are both expected to take the stand.
