Amazon labels some seafood products as ‘wild caught’ and ‘responsibly sourced’, but a lawsuit claims there’s something fishy
Amazon is facing a class action lawsuit over claims that some seafood products sold on its platform are marketed as sustainable even though consumers may not be getting the full picture about how the seafood is sourced. The proposed class-action lawsuit, filed in Seattle federal court on August 7, accuses Amazon of “greenwashing” dozens of tuna, salmon and other seafood products. According to a report by The Seattle Times, some products are promoted using terms such as “wild caught” and “responsibly sourced.” The lawsuit covers products sold online and in stores under brands including Chicken of the Sea, Bumble Bee, StarKist and Amazon-owned Whole Foods’ 365 brand.
