Google reshapes AI leadership as Jeff Dean exits and Demis Hassabis shifts to Alphabet role
Jeff Dean, who joined Google as its 30th employee in 1999 and went on to co-found its pioneering Google Brain research team, is leaving the company alongside other veterans to launch a start-up devoted to automating scientific discovery.
His departure comes on the same day that Google announced that Sir Demis Hassabis, co-founder of Google DeepMind and a Nobel-winning scientist, would step down as chief executive of the AI laboratory. He will now become chair of the lab and chief scientist of Google’s parent company, Alphabet.
