Telcos fined ₹1.9 cr for flouting service quality norms in FY26, maximum penalty on BSNL

New Delhi: A total penalty of ₹1.9 crore has been imposed on telecom operators in FY26 for flouting service quality norms, Parliament was informed on Thursday.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, said as per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) quality of service (QoS) regulation, wherever the prescribed QoS benchmarks are not met, the explanation of the service provider for non-compliance is called for.

After considering the response, the regulator imposes financial disincentives on the service provider concerned, the minister said.
