Furukawa to invest ₹6,000 cr to expand optical fiber & cable production capacity in India, US, Brazil, Japan

NEW DELHI: Japanese industrial and electrical services company Furukawa Electric said it will invest 100 billion yen (~₹6,000 crore) into expanding capacity for optical fibers and rollable ribbon cables in India, the United States, Brazil, and Japan, as demand for such cables continues to rise from the AI hyperscaler industry.

“The company will undertake these investments in the US, Brazil, Japan, and India, and mass production resulting from these investments is scheduled to commence progressively from the second half of FY2028 onward,” Furukawa said in a media statement Tuesday, adding that it will also contribute to an increase in consolidated net sales.
