Amazon goes to FCC again, seeks approval to launch 5,105 satellites; aims to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink Mobile
Amazon has asked the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to approve launching up to 5,105 internet satellites for a new direct-to-device (D2D) satellite network. This will mark the tech giant’s latest step toward competing with SpaceX’s Starlink Mobile. The proposed constellation would enable compatible smartphones and other devices to connect directly to satellites rather than relying solely on traditional cellular towers.
If approved, Amazon’s direct-to-device service will compete with Starlink Mobile, SpaceX’s satellite-based cellular connectivity offering.
