Centre bars telecom infrastructure providers from sharing network data outside India
The Centre has mandated that all telecommunication network data, logs and related information of communication infrastructure providers must be stored within India, prohibiting any sharing or routing of such data outside the country under the newly notified Telecommunications (Authorisation for Telecommunication Network) Rules, 2026.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued the authorisation framework for communication infrastructure providers, including cloud-hosted telecom network providers, mobile tower operators, satellite earth station gateways, internet exchange points and mobile number portability providers, as part of the government’s transition from a licensing regime to a lighter regulatory framework under the Telecommunications Act, 2023.
