Trump’s AI security agency head resigns after 3 months; Arvind Raman named acting chief

Chris Fall, the head of the United States Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), has resigned just three months after taking charge of the federal artificial intelligence (AI) testing institute. According to Axios, the US Commerce Department confirmed the departure, announcing that Dr. Arvind Raman, Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will step in to serve as the acting director of the agency.

The resignation comes at a crucial moment as the Trump administration grapples with setting safety guidelines, evaluation benchmarks and national standards for rapidly evolving AI technologies. Fall was appointed in April to lead the newly-reorganised federal body.
