India’s Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme gets Rs 62,500 cr push; Rs 39 lakh cr output & 60,000 jobs expected

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs 62,500-crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS), a major push to strengthen India’s position as a global electronics manufacturing hub and deepen domestic value addition in smartphone production. The new scheme, which succeeds the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing that ended on March 31, 2026, will be implemented over five years, from FY2026-27 to FY2030-31.
