Online Gaming Rules, 2026

The government has announced the implementation of the Online Gaming Rules, 2026, introducing a comprehensive regulatory framework for India’s online gaming sector. The rules, which came into force on May 1, 2026, create a transparent system to classify online games, distinguishing prohibited online money games from permissible e-sports and online social games. The framework is designed to promote user safety, regulatory accountability and responsible industry growth. It provides for time-bound enforcement, proportionate penalties and a two-tier appellate mechanism for grievances.
