AI videos, WhatsApp networks reshape campaign playbook in poll-bound states

A woman wearing spectacles and a bindi appears on the Tamil Nadu Congress social media handles every day at 7 pm, speaking in Tamil or English about the party’s achievements and criticising the BJP’s governance.
She is not a real person, but a digital human generated using artificial intelligence.
The videos, uploaded on the INCTamilNadu handles across Meta platforms and X since January, are part of a broader push towards tech-driven campaigning, as parties gear up for assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry.
