Samsung’s AI chip boom: Why record profits failed to impress investors
Samsung Electronics reported one of the strongest quarterly performances in its history, with third-quarter operating profit jumping nearly ninefold from a year earlier to 107.4 trillion won. However, investors focused on the company’s future outlook, shareholder returns and its ability to keep pace with rival SK Hynix.
Samsung shares fell as much as 6.2% in morning trade on October 29, despite the record results. Investors were looking for a stronger outlook for the memory-chip market and more clarity on the company’s plans to reward shareholders.
