US green card suspension may have limited impact on Indian IT firms as PERM filings fall
The US suspension of eight technology companies, including Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro and HCL, from the green card sponsorship programme may have a limited impact on their operations, as data show Indian IT firms have sharply reduced applications for permanent residency in recent years.
The Trump administration on Thursday suspended the eight firms from the Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) programme, accusing them of shutting out American workers from the job market. The companies also include Capgemini, Cognizant, Microsoft and Adobe, all of which employ significant numbers of Indian professionals.
