Woman arrested for using fake digital payment to buy gold ornaments from shops
A woman has been arrested for allegedly duping jewellery shops by showing fake digital payment confirmations and collecting gold ornaments.
Madhurima Das, a resident of the Lake police station area in south Calcutta, was arrested on Saturday after she allegedly tried to repeat the ruse at a jewellery shop in Chouhati.
According to investigators, Das allegedly surveyed jewellery shops before visiting them, posing as a customer.
After selecting jewellery, she would offer to pay digitally and then show the shopkeeper a message on her mobile phone that appeared to confirm a successful bank transaction.
