ICEYE, Nokia partner to serve government, defence customers with sovereign LEO satcom connectivity

NEW DELHI: Satellite intelligence provider ICEYE and telecom equipment maker Nokia have partnered to develop secure and sovereign broadband low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications systems for governments, according to a joint statement.

The first communications satellites developed under the initiative are scheduled for launch in 2028, targeting missions across national defence, border security, emergency services, and disaster response.

Under the partnership, participating nations will retain complete ownership and control of satellites, ground segments, and terminals, leveraging European technology to establish secure communications infrastructure.
