Startup Spintronics AI inks MoU with CSIR-CEERI to drive GaN technology development in India
Hyderabad-based Spintronics AI Semiconductors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI) focused on a technology and design transfer partnership for the Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology.
The strategic collaboration will evaluate technology, infrastructure, and fabrication requirements while transferring advanced GaN technology and design know-how from research and development labs into an industry-led domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
CSIR-CEERI has expertise in GaN device research, process know-how, and fabrication, while Spintronics AI will contribute with its expertise in semiconductor design, engineering, and scalable product development.
GaN represents a critical next-generation semiconductor technology with application spectrums spanning defence, aerospace, satellite communications, RF communications, advanced telecom, power electronics, and electric mobility.
The partnership supports national semiconductor self-reliance goals under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by strengthening domestic capabilities in GaN technology and future fabrication unit development.
“India’s GaN semiconductor market is projected to grow from approximately $224 Million in 2026 to nearly $1.88 billion by 2033,” said Raghu Varma, Founder & CEO at SpintronicsAI Semiconductors.
Varma added that the initiative will help India capture more market value domestically by manufacturing GaN products across power, RF, telecom, space, and automotive sectors while tapping global opportunities.
“This collaboration will strengthen India’s indigenous GaN technology ecosystem by leveraging CSIR-CEERI’s more than two decades of experience in GaN devices,” said Manish Mathew, scientist F and head (diamond research group) at CSIR-CEERI.
Mathew noted that combining institute expertise with Spintronics AI’s product development capabilities will accelerate technology translation, local semiconductor manufacturing, and national supply chain self-reliance.
